I have also done a great deal of non-prop artwork
in the haunted house arena - conceptualizing, developing and creating artwork and characters for
many Haunted Houses. The nice thing about HH
artwork is that it doesn't necessarily have to be spot on. Most people are rushing through
the place so fast that they don't stop and criticize the details
of the art (if they notice it at all). So you are able to create a simple free form
sort of art in which you may or may not have colored within
all the lines. (You may notice this, er, style, when you check out the
photos.) On the other side of the coin, most HH artwork is subject to
more abuse than most other forms of the medium. Luckily, when you're
painting walls or designing characters, this doesn't really come into play. If you're a perfectionist,
you might find yourself going back to touch up their artwork (it usually has
to withstand people slamming into it, throwing objects at it, spilled
soda and the like). Then again, a perfectionist might rail at the idea
of painting on the mish-mashed surface of fiber board, too....
Of course, the transient nature of most HH artwork often
means if you don't take a photo of it, you may never see it again. So
here is some artwork, haunted house settings and characters from my HH
career...
